Roosevelt High School Ranked #1 in South Dakota by US News and World Report, but Lincoln High School Scores Higher
Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School has earned the title of being be the best high school in South Dakota according to US News and World Report, earning a silver medal ranking from the national news magazine.
The Washington D.C . based news magazine ranks schools according to the percentage of Advanced Placement or AP classes that students pass, test scores in math and reading as well as the student to teacher ratio as well as other categories.
Among the South Dakota schools listed in the U.S. News Best High Schools 2013 rankings, eight earned silver medals and 30 received bronze medals.
Sioux Falls educators say it’s sometimes difficult to see how they come to their conclusions but being ranked nationally is positive for Sioux Falls.
“We’re always happy to see our schools nationally recognized for student achievement. This recognition is a reflection of our highly qualified and committed staff and the hard work of our students. Recognitions such as this one inspire us every day to meet our mission ‘to educate and prepare each student to succeed in a changing world,’” said Dr. Laura Raeder, High School Curriculum Coordinator for Sioux Falls Public Schools.
Looking at the big three high schools in Sioux Falls, it’s difficult to see much of a distinction between them, and actually Lincoln High School scores tested higher than Roosevelt in some of the categories.
