BUFFALO, NY -- A former Sioux Falls Stampede star is returning to the Buffalo Sabres.

Forward Corey Tropp has been re-signed to a one-year contract.

The Sabres are showing faith in Tropp, their 2007 third-round pick. He was regarded as a candidate to contend for a job in Buffalo last season before sustaining a serious injury to his left knee while playing in AHL Rochester.  Tropp scored two goals on two shots in the Amerks' first game on October 12 against Syracuse, but was forced to leave with a knee injury. The 24-year-old winger returned to play five games at the end of the season, collecting a pair of assists.  Overall, he has 21 goals and 45 assists in 109 career AHL games.

He's been called up to Buffalo five times, and has three goals and five assists in 34 NHL games.

Tropp was a key member of the Stampede’s Anderson Cup and Clark Cup championships in 2005-06 and 2006-07.  He led the Stampede in scoring during the 2006-07 season, posting 26 goals and 36 assists while leading the Herd to their first ever Clark Cup title. He was also named MVP of the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game that year.

The Sabres open pre-season play on Saturday, September 15th and the regular season on October 4th in Detroit.
