An investigation is underway regarding the officer involved in the shooting in Salem Sunday night, July 19, 2015.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the details at the request of the McCook County Sheriff’s Office.

The McCook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at the Brewery Bar.  The incident escalated and resulted in McCook County Deputy Randy Schwader shooting Cornelius Milk, age 38, of Salem.  He is recovering from his injuries.

At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General for a final determination on the officer’s action. The release of the summary is anticipated within 30 days.
