According to the Rapid City Journal a Pennington County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a mountain lion Monday night after the animal was spotted in a Keystone neighborhood dragging a raccoon.

The deputy spotted the young lion in the rear alley behind a business known as The Rock Shed.

The sheriff's department consulted with the state Department of Game, Fish and Parks and decided to shoot and kill the lion, because the lion had already killed an animal in a populated area and was still in close proximity to homes.
