Single Forever or Married to Someone You Don’t Love?
If you were forced to make a decision right now between staying single and dying alone or getting married to someone you really don’t love, but at least you would have a companion to spend time with as you grow older, which route would you choose?
A similar question was asked recently to a group of people by a site called TheFrisky.com.
The question was, “Would you rather be single forever…or married to someone you don’t really like that much?”
It’s a question I’m sure that has crossed the mind of every single person from time to time.
The answer to that question might have been vastly different a few generations ago, but according to this new poll, people today overwhelmingly say they’d rather die alone than be in a loveless marriage.
Three out of four people picked “single forever” over “marry someone I don’t love.” That’s a pretty convincing statement.
Is “love” really essential in any relationship, especially marriage?
Or are you the type that believes a successful relationship or marriage can be built on other superficial attractions other than love? I mean if the sex is good or the money is right why not?
I gotta believe the majority of relationship experts will tell you not to get married if you don’t love the other person. It will only create bigger problems for you down the line. This in turn will make you wish you had ultimately chosen the single path all along.
But then the question becomes are you strong enough to suffer the prospect of being single and alone the rest of your life?
I guess I’ve always been the type of person that wants to believe there’s a Mr. or Mrs. Right for everyone. In some cases it just might take a little longer to track that person down.
My advice for what it’s worth, follow your heart and do what you feel is right.
