It’s the 85th anniversary of the United Way organization and the local chapter wants to meet an ambitious fundraising goal.

Over 500 business leaders and community members gathered Friday morning to announce the Sioux Empire United Way’s plan to raise $10,118,695.

According to the group, the goal is the actual dollar amount needed to meet the needs of the community.  It’s a combination of what SEUW volunteers anticipate to be the community’s needs and fundraising capability of the region’s residents.

Campaign chair Paul Bruflat says for the last 19 years the group has met or exceeded their fundraising goal and wants to keep the string intact.

Another main initiative of the SEUW looks to prepare children for Kindergarten.  If fundraising goals are met, the Ready to Start program will assist 150 children spread across 5 school districts.

Sioux Empire United Way partner programs serve 33 communities in Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha & Turner counties.
