Sioux Empire’s Best ‘Killer’ ‘Go To’ Recipes. YUM!
My mom has always made a killer Pot Roast! I enjoy cooking and have always tried to make a Pot Roast as good as hers. No luck so far. But I have gotten compliments on my Roasts. It’s been a “Go-To Meal” for me.
We asked our facebook friends: What is “YOUR KILLER RECIPE”, the never-fail, always gets compliments dish? “Country Boy Filet of Gator” was not one of these. My son opened the bag on that one for supper. It will never be on any tasty food list.
These, however, are some recipes that people in the Sioux Empire love. Now keep in mind I could not get everyone’s personalize recipes but did link up some ones that will give you a good idea of what is used. And if you want to channel your inner Rachael Ray, maybe you can improvise something special for your house?!
*Sherry Knutson – My Meatloaf and Cheeseburger Soup are favorites. Of course, they wouldn’t score too high on the “good for you” scale. Paula Deen would be proud.
*Diana Ingram – My Meatloaf, Chili and Sloppy joes.
*Missy Galer – Bean Pie
*Howard Hedger – Ye Olde English Chip Shop Chips. Regular consumption doesn’t give you a Mary Poppins “Bert” style accent, but it will realign your life expectancy with that of a late 1800s coal miner.
*Tami J Miller – My fall back is a large thing of Spaghetti Pizza.. u can put whatever topping you want on it as long as there is lots of cheese.. dont take long to make so good for last minute stop overs to eat..
*Sherri Buresh Johnson – My homemade spaghetti sauce, it’s really yummy
*Ben Carter – Creamy Chicken Wild Rice Soup (I’ve had his CCWRS and it’s great!)
*Ashley Honeycutt – Yummy Snack– More of a snack than meal, but it’s got oatmeal, PB, chia seeds, choco chips and honey, so I think you can make a dish and call it a meal 1/3c quick oats, 2tbsp Peanut Butter, 1/3c honey, 1tbsp chia seeds, 1/4c choco chips- mix together in bowl or roll into ball and freeze!
*Shirley Bourdeaux – Swiss Steak.
*Jana Bartholomew – My Chili rocks
And one of my favorites, Lynn Walburg Jorgensen – Heroin Hotdish – Completely legal, I assure you- although maybe it shouldn’t be. Here is the recipe!
-1 box of rotini noodles
-1 lb of Italian sausage
-Spaghetti or pizza sauce
-small can of black olives
-small can of mushrooms
-8 oz Mozarella cheese
-1 container of cottage cheese
Directions: boil the noodles, al dente, brown the sausage, add onion for flavor and add mushrooms, drain if needed
Add noodles and spaghetti sauce (I use Prego)
In a separate bowl mix together:
Canadian bacon (chopped finely)
in a greased 9×13 casserole dish, put the meat/noodle/sauce mixture add the cheese mixture to the top, spreading evenly put a layer of pepperoni on the top of the cheese mixture.
Bake uncovered at 350 for 20 minutes ~ ENJOY!!
(the reason this recipe was named “Heroin Hotdish” is because my husband says once you start eating, you can’t stop. Our family of 6 usually devours the pan)
