During Thursday's Police Media Briefing at the Law Enforcement Center, Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says a Sioux Falls student is being charged with aggravated assault.

"The 11-year old had  a BB gun with him. He pulled it out of his backpack to show a friend. Then he pointed it at a 12-year old girl and said 'maybe I should shoot you' and comments like that. A teacher saw that and tried to get the backpack and the BB gun. But, the kid ended up getting away and took off running."

Clemens says the girl believed the gun was real.

"Initially the 12-year old girl had no idea if it was a real gun or not. She thought it was a real gun. We later found out it was a BB gun. The boy was charged with aggravated assault."

The incident took place outside Patrick Henry School on Wednesday afternoon.
