NCAA officials announced that the City of Sioux Falls has been chosen as a finalist to potentially host multiple national championships over the next four academic years. All of the championships in which Sioux Falls has been chosen as a finalist include come from the Division II ranks. Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field, DII Men’s Basketball, DII Women’s Basketball, DII Women’s Volleyball, and DII Wrestling.

According to the NCAA’s website, The University of Sioux Falls Sports Complex is one of 6 sites that will compete for the Track and Field Venue.  The others are located in Allendale, MI; Geneva, OH; Raleigh, NC; Bradenton, FL; and Kingsville, Texas.

The Sanford Pentagon made the cut for three events.   The NCAA will choose from three sites for Men’s Basketball with Sioux Falls; Frisco, TX and Evansville, IN in the running.  Four choices remain in Volleyball with Pensacola and Tampa, FL plus Kearney, NE being the others.  Six sites will hope to gain the Women’s Basketball championship from places such as Indianapolis, IN; Louisville, KY; Mankato, MN; Fort Lauderdale, FL and Columbus, OH joining Sioux Falls.  The Denny Sanford Premier Center made the top four site selections for Wrestling along with arenas in St. Louis, MO; Kearney, NE and Waterloo, IA.

The 150 cities named as finalists for at least one championship are spread across 39 states and the District of Columbia. Ohio led the way as the state with the most finalist selections with 24 championship sites, while the state of Florida had 22 selections and North Carolina had 21. Louisville was the city that received the most selections with 13, while Columbus, Ohio, and Birmingham, Ala., both had eight.  The final selection of host cities will be announced via webcast at NCAA.com on December 11.
