The east edge of Sioux Falls is the home of the newly dedicated Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum & East Sioux Falls Historic Site Educational Center honoring Judy Jasper.

Judy Jasper, a retired elementary school teacher left a legacy of learning to the citizens of southeastern South Dakota out of gratitude for her 40-year teaching career and to honor her late mother Mabel’s 50-year teaching career.

The two-story Educational Center is a recreation of the L-shaped schoolhouse that stood in East Sioux Falls in the 1880s. In the days of the early settlers, one wing of the building contained the classroom and the other housed the teacher. Today, the Educational Center hosts a meeting room and historical classroom on the upper level, as well a reception area and kitchen facilities.
