Construction on South Louise Avenue in Sioux Falls began on Monday (May 9, 2016). The project will give us a smoother ride next year.

If you're like me I use Louise Avenue everyday for my commute to work. Maybe you use it to go to the Empire Mall or other businesses. Within the last year traffic has increased and these few blocks have taken a real beating.

It's a 2 phase project. First, the Public Works Department is milling and then will overlay Louise Avenue between 41st Street to 49th Street. That will get us by until 2017 when storm drainage improvements are made.

“Next year South Louise Avenue will be completely reconstructed, but it also will need to carry traffic during the project, so repaving this lane this year will get us ready for the major work in 2017,” says Mark Cotter, Director of Public Works. “This mill and overlay will extend the life of the street and create a smoother surface for drivers until work can begin next year.”

Look for an alternate route around this construction area.  Plenty to choose from.  Just be safe, polite and patient.
