A Southeast South Dakotan is the new general manager of the Sioux Falls Canaries.

Tripp native Matt Ferguson is being promoted to the position after serving in the front office of the American Association team for the last four seasons.

Ferguson began as a sales executive in 2010 before being promoted to director of ticket sales in 2012. Last season, he was was named vice president of sales, a position he holds for both the Canaries and Sioux Falls Stampede hockey team.

During Ferguson's tenure, both the Canaries and Stampede have seen record attendance and ticket sale growth.

In a team press release, Canaries CEO/President Tom Garrity said:

We are thrilled to have Matt as general manager of the Canaries.

His work ethic and demeanor make him a perfect fit for this position and we know he will help make us a better organization on and off the field.

Other changes in the Canaries front office include new assistant general manager of baseball operations Duell Higbe and new assistant general manager of business operations Brita Bragnalo.

Higbe is in his second season with the organization after working last season in stadium operations.

Bragnalo is in her first season with the Canaries and also works as the hockey operations administrator.

The Canaries open the 2014 season May 15th when they host the Sioux City Explorers.
