A Sioux Falls contractor has been sentenced for grand theft, and while he will stay out of prison, he will have to make restitution.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says 28-year-old Michael Harry Monmaney was sentenced to eight years in prison, with eight suspended, for grand theft by deception for work in Minnehaha County from late spring 2011 through summer 2013.

Monmaney also was ordered to spend 30 days in jail for failing to give a three-day right-to-cancel.

He also gets four years' probation with conditions that include making restitution of nearly $8,900 to be paid by the end of his probation period.

The Attorney General's office says the charges stemmed from complaints filed by Minnehaha County homeowners, but some Lincoln County residents say Monmaney also is accused in that county.
