If you don't think Meth is the drug of choice for many drug users, Avera Counselor Jennifer Albrecht of Sioux Falls offers this response.

"I have been with Avera since 2006 and I can honestly say that alcohol used to be the drug I would see everyday with individuals. Now, I see at least one person a day with a Meth Addiction."

Albrecht says that's due in part to the availability of the drug in South Dakota and the surrounding states..

"I think it kind of depends on the trends as far as what is coming into the mid-west. I think Meth is easily manufactured and is done so in the region. So, it's obviously available in the region. Some of the other drugs, including heroin, are coming from the coast and down in Mexico and may not be as easy to get."

Albrecht says Meth Addiction is one of the most emotional and hard experiences people can go through in their lives as they strive to recover from the powerful addiction. Not only does the drug wreak havoc on a person's body, the the problems that stem from Meth Addiction make this one of the most dangerous drugs around.

As more information spreads about the addiction, more people are likely to see signs and symptoms in their loved ones and encourage them to seek help. Treatment can help mitigate the long-term effects of Meth.
