People in Sioux Falls love their food. It’s also a fact that people love news about food in the best little city in America.

Entrepreneur Jodi Schwan of SiouxFalls.Business tells KSOO News that she is fascinated by stories about restaurants. Schwan says that reveals a little bit of the Sioux Falls mindset.

"We're still growing and small enough as a community that it's a big deal when a national chain comes to town. You can go to other places around the country and I don't think you find quite the same interest in a new fill-in-the-blank chain restaurant opening as you would in Sioux Falls."

In a similar fashion to the “Better Burger” movement as a string of hamburger restaurants moved to the area, Schwan thinks the next wave will bring more eateries that feature chicken.

"Slim Chickens is one of those up-and-coming concepts started in the south and they are really growing quickly. That first location on Minnesota Avenue is scheduled to open July 17. Their menu is basic, but I am told it is very well-executed."

Schwan says the Slim Chickens franchise is just a part of the many properties overseen by Todd Porter who has a stake in a handful of Sioux Falls restaurants.

According to Schwan the top chicken restaurant franchise is Chick Fil-A, but Sioux Falls does not have a division of that chain yet.
