It's hard enough to be a mom, but it's even more difficult to be a single mom. Speaking from experience, being a single mom you learn to budget, you learn to sacrifice and you learn to develop a certain "toughness".

When I was growing up, society's "normal" family life consisted of both parents being in the picture, and if there was a "single mom/parent" in your town, more often than not, they were frowned upon. But times have changed. The once unconventional single-mom family life has become more mainstream and accepted.

According to the financial website WalletHub and the United States Census Bureau, single-mom families equal about 25% of all U.S. households, at nearly 10 million, outnumbering the single-dad families.

WalletHub took data from 150 of the most populated cities in the United States and looked at two main factors to determine the 2016 Best & Worst Cities For Single Moms - “Single Moms’ Economic & Social Well-Being” and “Child-Friendly Environment.”

Using a point system with a range of 0 to 100, the cities were graded on categories that include - but are not limited to - "Highest/Lowest Cost of a Babysitter", "Highest/Lowest Percentage of Employed Single Moms with Underage Children", "Highest/Lowest Median Annual Income For Single Moms" and "Highest Childcare Workers to Children Ratio" (Sioux Falls placed number four in this category.)
