What's better than winning one state championship? How about winning two in one day. That's exactly what the Lincoln Patriots did over the weekend.

Lincoln won their first two state championships of the 2017-18 season on Saturday (Oct. 7). The Patriots were able to win another state girls tennis championship, and then score an overtime victory to win the state soccer title.

On the girls tennis side, the Patriots dominated the tournament with a team score of 650. Second place O'Gorman finished with 508 points. Ava Leonard (Flight 2), Johana Brower (Flight 3), and Emily Whitney (Flight 4) each claimed individual tournament wins. The Patriots won doubles flight 2, while also finishing up as runner up in doubles flight 1.

Later that day, the Patriots boys soccer team secured a championship by beating last year's champion Aberdeen Central 3-1 in overtime. Isaac Woods opened the scoring with about nine minutes to play. Aberdeen Central answered back sending the game to overtime tied at one. Anwar Ibrahim scored the first overtime goal for the Patriots with 8:31 left in that period, and then it was Woods notching his second goal in the second overtime period to secure the 3-1 victory.
