Sioux Falls Police Department Public Information Officer Sam Clemens says a man crashed his car and then attempted to break into an apartment near 8th Street and North Garfield Avenue on Tuesday.

"We had a guy that ended up hitting a fence in central Sioux Falls. Once he crashed, the man took off running and went to an apartment. He tried to break his way into the apartment. The owner was actually holding the door so it wouldn't break open. The suspect then went to the window of the apartment and was able to force that open. Once the owner saw the suspect he yelled and said he was calling the police. The suspect ended up leaving."

Shortly after that the man was arrested.

"Police got there and found him nearby. They found some drugs in his pocket. He was arrested for quite a few charges, including burglary, hit and run, along with some drug charges as well."

Clemens says 37-year-old Lucas Strohm of Sioux Falls was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time.
