Scam artists who call, claiming to be from the IRS have struck again, and a Sioux Falls man is out $1,500.

Officer Sam Clemens says the 57-year-old man told police he was called by a man and a woman on Monday.

The victim said he was told he owed $5,000 for some recent tax returns.

The callers told him to buy some GreenDot money cards and he bought three, totaling $1500, and gave the card numbers to the callers over the phone.

The man's money is gone, and Clemens says again that if you get a similar call, your best bet is to hang up and verify the information on your own.

Police say the IRS doesn't call people on the phone to tell them they owe money, and they don't take payments in GreenDot cards.
