Police were notified of a man on the ground being attacked by a large pit bull near 6th and West on Saturday, August 8, 2015 just before 9:00 PM.

The pit bull stopped attacking the man and ran at police, who then fired one round, striking the pit bull. The pit bull continued to advance towards the officers and it was shot again by the second responding officer and taken by animal control for emergency vet care.

Police learned that the pit bull was the victim’s own dog. The victim suffered from a bite to his left thumb, a swollen left cheek, a swollen left eye, and abrasions to his left elbow.
