Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says two people have been arrested after authorities found components to make explosives and modified firearms at a home on the 4900 Block of East 54th Street.

"A person inside an apartment noticed a hole in their wall and didn't think much of it. When they went to change their bed, they found a hole in the sheets and a hole in the mattress. A 22-caliber slug was pulled out of that hole. That led us to get a warrant for the neighboring apartment.

Clemens says that's when detectives made a startling discovery.

"They ended up finding quite a few illegal guns. They had a lot of short guns---the barrels were shortened. There were also a lot of explosive devices that were found. Some of these we're not sure if they were fully functional yet. They had all the components to make the devices functional."

Clemens says 29-year-old Darren Zaft and 35-year-old Jennifer Cash were arrested on multiple gun related charges, including possession of a controlled weapon. Over 100 firearms and explosive devices including grenades were found in the home.

To add more intrigue, Cash is employed by the Sioux Falls School District. Friday afternoon, officials sent a note via email to parents acknowledging the arrest.

Today we were informed that Jennifer Cash, an education assistant at Laura Wilder Elementary, was arrested by Sioux Falls Police. She is charged with multiple counts of possession of a destructive device and possession of a controlled weapon. This individual was not at work today, and at this time, we have no reason to believe that our students or staff were ever in danger. However, because the safety of our students is our highest priority, we will continue to work with police in this investigation and we remain committed that our schools will continue to be safe places for our children. This message is not to alarm, but to inform. Thank you for partnering with us in keeping our students safe.
