Sioux Falls Police Officer Jim Larson says Tuesday night is really special for 50 children.

It's called 'Shopping with Kids and Cops.'

"This event is a time for local law enforcement officers and children from families at the Banquet to get together and shop at Target. Each of the kids will have a 50 dollar gift card donated through various groups and individuals. As always we want to thank Target for hosting us. We have had donations from the Fraternal Order of Police, Minnehaha County Deputies Association, Brandon Optimist Club and a couple of local people who want to remain nameless."

Larson says the annual event generates good will between the kids and the police officers.

"This is a great time for us as officers to relate with kids who normally see us only in emergency situations. They are able to get to know us as people. They can ask us questions. We see many benefits in a time when so much negative stuff is going on."

Larson says the children will be accompanied by police officers at Target West and Target East to make the purchases.
