Sioux Falls Police are investigating the death of an infant at an in-home day care located at 5024 East Fernwood Avenue.

"We had a provider at home with several kids," Police Spokesman Sam Clemens told us. "It was just before 2:00 P.M. last Friday. She noticed a two-month-old boy was not breathing. She ended up calling emergency services who took the child to the hospital where he was pronounced dead."

So far, it's not known what caused the infant's death.

"At this time we are still investigating what happened. There were no obvious injuries to the boy. We are still trying to find out what the details were. There was an autopsy that was done. But, we are waiting for the results to come back. Once everything is complete, we will send the information over to the state's attorney office. They will review the report and decide if any charges would be appropriate."

Clemens says the day care is not in operation at this time.

"We work closely with health care when there are issues at in-home day care. They ended up suspending the license on Friday. At this point there is no one allowed or no children are allowed at that day care."

According to authorities, health inspectors discovered licensing policy violations when they surveyed the home last Friday.
