Sioux Falls Police were involved in a standoff with an armed suspect on Saturday in the 1100 block of East 3rd Street.

At about 1:00 p.m. police were called to the IU General Store on a report of a man with a gun. When officers arrived the found the suspect inside the store with a hand gun. The suspect refused to comply with the officer's commands to drop the weapon and surrender. Police Emergency Response Teams were then called to the scene.

According to Seargent Aaron Nyberg police were able to evacuate the store and parking lot without incident.

After a brief standoff, the suspect was eventually taken into custody.

The suspect, Martine Luiz Moreno, 21, was taken to the Minnehaha County Jail and charged with 1st degree robbery, four counts of aggravated assault, and interference with emergency communications.

The store owner suffered unknown injuries and was take to a local hospital for medical attention. An officer also sustained a knee injury during the incident. Both are expected to recover from their injuries.
