The Sioux Falls Police Department plans to hire 14 new officers, and anyone with an interest in law enforcement is being encouraged to apply.

Applications are due by Tuesday, March 18 and the new officers will begin on July 7.
Police Chief Doug Barthel says police work is a challenging career, but it can be very rewarding:

The chief says they are looking for good women and men to represent the Police Department and help keep the community safe.

Barthel says possibly a dozen more officers will be hired this fall, and the officers who are hired will offset those who are slated to retire both in 2014 and 2015.
