Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says the department's Street Crimes Unit made two prostitution related arrests Sunday night at a motel in the Northeast part of the city.

"They were actually doing some surveillance when they got there. They saw a man leaving the room. They talked to the woman and found out she was working for herself. She was not being trafficked in any way. She was then arrested for prostitution. They were able to track down the man as well. He was not forcing her into that but he was helping her out...giving her a ride to Sioux Falls. He was actually providing some protection. He was arrested for pimping."

Clemens says prostitution exists in Sioux Falls.

"It sounds like there is a lot of prostitution taking place. It's just a matter of having the time to do the investigation and follow through with that. Our goal is to try and find the women that are being trafficked and get them out of the situation."

Clemens says the two people arrested reside in Iowa.
