Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says saturation patrols on New Year's Weekend did not result in a large number of DWI arrests.

"We had nine DWI arrests total this year. That's down a little bit. We had 11 arrests last year. Call volume was almost the same. Not a whole lot of problems. Things to be going pretty well."

Clemens says more residents are getting the message about drinking and driving.

"I think there's a lot more awareness that people are more conscious about drinking and driving on New Year's Eve weekend compared with other times during the year. For whatever reason it seems like our numbers might be a little bit lower on that holiday compared with St. Patrick's Day, Halloween or something like that."
