During Monday's Police Media Briefing, Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens reported new information on the death of an infant.

"We had the initial call last Wednesday about a baby that was having some difficulty breathing. The child was taken to the hospital and died the next day. What we found was this: mom and dad were home. Mom left with a friend and was gone. Dad woke up and heard the child kind of gagging---making some vomiting noises. Dad provided some care for the child. At some point, the baby quit breathing. He ended up calling mom several times and wasn't able to get hold of her. So he called the friend she was with. The friend had mom call back. It ended up being a 24 minute gap from the time when the baby quit breathing---to when 911 was called."

"When mom got home, he ended up calling 911. He was the one that called and dialed the number with his phone. He gave the phone to mom. She explained what was going on and started doing CPR on the infant. We ended up searching the house and found some marijuana inside the house. Last week on Friday, an arrest warrant was issued for dad (Michael Schumm) for abuse and neglect of a minor and possession of marijuana."

"He has not been found yet to be arrested on the warrant. We are still looking for him and he knows this warrant is out there. We are treating this infant death as a homicide. Our investigation is still moving forward."

Clemens says the results of the infant's autopsy are expected to take several weeks.
