During a Monday morning police media briefing, Sioux Falls Police Sgt. Shaun Olson says 37-year-old Jennie Lee-Smith Solorzano was found dead on Saturday in the basement of a house on North Cliff Avenue.

Olson says the the victim (according to the Coroner) was killed up to 12 hours before she was found.

"Obviously the initial investigation showed what appeared to be trauma to her head and neck. It appeared to be stab wounds. That's how everything evolved when we got on scene. The suspect in this case was present as well as two neighbors who lived in an upstairs apartment."

Olson says a pocket knife was found at the scene. A search warrant was issued for the home.

The woman's husband, Garrett Solorzano, faces first-degree murder charge in connection with the death.
