Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says two men were arrested after ripping off property in an unlocked car.

"We had a guy that left his car unlocked. He had a briefcase with a lot of personal and business papers inside. Somebody took advantage of that and stole the papers. He put some information out on Facebook and craigs list looking for that property and tried to get it back. The people that took it actually responded and set up a way to negotiate a fee to return the stolen items. The victim called police. They were able to find the twp suspects and charge them with possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools."

Clemens urges residents to make sure they lock their vehicles.

"It's going to keep most of your property safe. You're not going to stop everything. But, if you keep valuables inside the car make sure your car is locked and try to get the property out of site."

Clemens says all too often stolen cars are left unlocked by their owners making it easy for the thieves to steal the vehicle and the contents inside.
