Today is one of those days when it feels more like late January, than late March.

We should really stop complaining, this has been one of the mildest winters South Dakota has had in a long time.

The problem is, when we get spoiled like this, it just makes the current cold snap we're experiencing at the moment that much more difficult to endure. It is mind-boggling, however, that we were hovering around 80 degrees a couple of weeks ago. You can never accuse South Dakota of not having any variety when it comes to its weather.

If you have lived in South Dakota for any time, you know all too well that we are never out of the winter weather woods until we hit at least early May.

That was made abundantly clear again today, as I headed to the gym early this morning following a fleet of snow plows clearing off 41st Street! It was painful to see, and what's scary, Sioux Falls didn't even come close to getting the brunt of Mother Nature's latest springtime winter weather masterpiece to strike the region.

Now that Ma Nature has decided to place us all back in the deep freeze for a few more days, it got me wondering what is the coldest temperature ever recorded in Sioux Falls during March.

We need to travel back to March 11th, 1948 for that one. On that date, Sioux Falls set a record low temp of -23 below zero according to the folks with PlantMaps.com.

YIKES! That kind of arctic blast will definitely freeze the you-know-what off a brass monkey, I don't care what month it is.

By the way, the coldest temp ever recorded in the Rushmore State during the month of March was once again on March 11th, this time in 1998. It dipped to -38 below zero at Camp Crook in Northwestern South Dakota.

I'm sure you'll agree, that makes the bite in the air we're experiencing today in Sioux Falls pale in comparison. It could always be worse.

So, as you shiver over the next few days, take comfort in knowing that we'll more than likely be seeing people in tank tops and shorts again in just a couple more weeks.
