The Sioux Falls Stampede have named Scott Owens as the team's next head coach and general manager.

Owens has coached previously in the USHL in the mid 1980s with the Madison Capitals. He also had a stint with the Des Moines Buccaneers from 1995-1999, where he won a Anderson Cup and Clark Cup in 1998.

He has shined mostly in the college game coaching at Colorado College. Owens has spent 15 years at the school and posted a 324-228-54 record, and appeared in the NCAA Frozen Four in 2005.

In an official release, Stampede CEO and President Tom Garrity says that Owens brings a strong tradition to Sioux Falls.

"We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Scott Owens as our next head coach and general manager. Scott’s coaching record speaks for itself.  He is someone we feel can come in and continue the winning tradition we have built here in Sioux Falls. I know he is eager to get started right away with tryout camp in a few weeks and we are excited to have him lead the team as we look to defend our Clark Cup title next season."

Owen's beings his duties immediately with the Stampede and will preside over the tryout camp at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center June 12-15.
