As much as I hate to say it, the days are starting to get a little cooler. You can already feel it. Yep, summer is starting to wind on down.

But that sure hasn't effected construction season here in the Sioux Empire, it keeps heating up.

You can add these new lane closures to the already growing list of slow moving streets throughout the Sioux Falls area.

South Dakota Leads the Nation in Construction Unemployment in June

Beginning today, Wednesday, August 5, the inside southbound lane and center turn lane of Kiwanis Avenue at 39th Street will be closed for concrete repairs. Northbound traffic will not be affected, and southbound traffic will move to the outside lane.

I'm told that project will wrap up in about three days.

Also beginning on Wednesday, the outside northbound lane of Cliff Avenue north of Rice Street will be closed for concrete repairs. That too, will take about three days to complete.

But wait, there's more, westbound lanes of 12th Street between LaMesa Drive and Sertoma Avenue will be closed starting Wednesday. Crews will work on improvements to the bridge over Skunk Creek. One lane of traffic will be open in both directions at all times, but will alternate back and forth.

We will have to deal with that until early October.

Finally, starting Monday, August 10, the inside eastbound left turn lane and outside westbound through lane of 41st Street will be closed at Kiwanis Avenue for concrete repairs. Lanes on Kiwanis Avenue will also be closed due to this work. Southbound traffic on Kiwanis hoping to turn left on 41st Street should plan on using an alternate route.

At least one lane of through traffic will be open in all directions at all times. That project is expected to be completed in about four days.

Basically what it all boils down to is simple, muster up as much patience as you possibly can, use caution by reducing your speeds when traveling through these various construction areas and plan a little (sometimes a lot of) extra travel time.
