With help from the City of Sioux Falls, multiple neighborhoods are a little nicer. After you realize how much material was moved, this program is destined to continue.

Over a five day stretch in mid-April, three neighborhoods and four mobile home parks were pegged for debris removal. Consider this a spring cleaning for people’s property. As a general rule, well-kept property will help curtail criminal activity and improve health and well-being.

This was not prompted by a major catastrophe that forced anyone to act. Project NICE (Neighborhood Improvement/Complaint Easement) and Project KEEP (Keep Environmental Enhancement Permanent) are ongoing efforts to beautify Sioux Falls.

LuAnn Ford who serves as Administrator of the programs said in a press release almost 512 tons of rubbish was removed. To break it down to types of material there were 622 loads of rubble, 12 loads of tires, 4 loads of appliances, 8 loads of yard waste and 18 loads of wood from the neighborhoods alone.

The 2015 edition occurred during the week of April 13-17. Expect this program to continue as different neighborhoods will be chosen in 2016.
