Did you know that public speaking is the number one fear we have in North America? The second greatest fear is death.  If you have the fear of public speaking, you are not alone! Nell Holland of Sioux Falls knows that for a fact.

For the past five years, Nell has participated in the City Masters Toastmasters Club in Sioux Falls.

"Just being in front of people and giving a brief speech without notes is such a relief for me. Yes, I still get nervous and dry mouth. But, I continue to force myself to speak and that's the bottom line. The more I attend the Toastmaster's meetings, the more confident I become."

I totally agree with Nell. As a youngster, I was consumed with fear prior to standing in front of the class and giving a speech. At the time, I was a stutterer. That in itself was tough to overcome. I had given up hope that I would ever improve.

That is until my uncle, a member of a local Toastmasters Club, invited me to give a talk before the group. I vividly recall the experience!

That was the beginning of my transformation. I vowed to overcome my fear of public speaking. I contacted service clubs around Sioux Falls and asked if I could give a five minute speech titled 'Youth's Approach Toward World Forces.'

At the time, I was a junior high school student in Sioux Falls. I was consumed with confronting my fear of public speaking. That's just what I did. The more I spoke, the less nervous I was.

In other words, as a best selling author wrote: Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway. When you face down your fears, you will become victorious!

If you have a fear of public speaking, I offer this message of hope! You can become become a confident speaker if you join a public speaking organization such as Toastmaster's Club!

Nell Holland did and it changed her life!
