Sioux Falls Woman Returns to Find Burglar in Her Home
Police say a woman returned to her home in southwest Sioux Falls Wednesday morning to find a vehicle in her driveway and, as it turned out, an intruder was in her house.
Captain Greg VandeKamp says it was just after 10:30am when the woman arrived at her home in the 4100 block of West Mesa Pass, and he says she did the right thing by stopping a short distance away to call 911.
VandeKamp says the woman took note of the vehicle and its license number, and he says while she waited for police, a female walked out of the house carrying two plastic grocery-type bags, got into the vehicle and drove away.
Police located the vehicle a short time later, and VandeKamp says plastic bags matching those the victim saw were found in the suspect’s vehicle, and the woman was also located.
He says Sarah Almont, 31, of Sioux Falls was arrested on a third-degree burglary charge.
VandeKamp says Almont had taken groceries from the victim’s house, and he says she got in through an unlocked door.
