The Siouxland Libraries’ Oak View and Downtown library locations will host many special events this week as part of Navy Week.

Navy Week is an event designed to increase awareness, particularly in cities that might not otherwise see the Navy at work on a regular basis.

Navy Week at Siouxland Libraries begins at the Oak View Branch (3700 East Third Street, 367-8060):

Monday, July 18:

  • 12 Noon-1:00 PM – Navy Band performance (The Quintessential Winds Woodwind Quintet)
  • 2:00 PM-7:30 PM – STEM Truck/Display in the parking lot (Come explore STEM with the Navy. Stations are set up for the public to interact with robots, laparoscopic tools, and more!)
  • 7:00 PM-9:00 PM – Sioux Falls Navy Week Kick-Off Event (outside; open to the public)
    Join Rear Admiral Bret Muilenberg, Mayor Mike Huether, crewmembers of the USS Constitution (oldest commissioned warship in the world), the Quintessential Winds Woodwind Quintet, and Horizon (Navy pop music group) in celebration.
  • 7:30 PM – Leap Frogs (Navy parachute team) jump

The following events will all be at the Downtown Library (200 North Dakota Avenue, 367-8700):

Tuesday, July 19:

  • 10:05 AM-10:40 AM – Navy Woodwind Quintet will do a Family Story Time

Wednesday, July 20:

  • 8:00 AM-3:00 PM– STEM Truck/Display in the parking lot
  • 9:00 AM-1:00 PM – Library Book Walk with sailors from the USS Constitution
  • 12 Noon-1:00 PM – Lunchtime concert, The Brass Ambassadors Brass Quintet
  • 2:00 PM-3:00 PM – USS Constitution presentation

Friday, July 22:

  • 6:30 PM-7:30 PM – Horizon (Navy pop music group) concert for teens
