Skyforce Coach Gets First Taste of Sioux Falls
For another two years the Miami Heat will control what the Sioux Falls Skyforce look like on the floor. The next head coach will look to sustain the success built during the first two years of the relationship.
Dan Craig who has been ingrained with the Heat for the last 12 years will take the reigns when the ball goes up against the Iowa Energy on November 14.
Craig feels the time is right for this step into this role after working in Miami’s video department, as a player-development coach and Head Coach of Miami’s Summer League entry the last two years. “I just think it’s the opportunity to grow as a coach and as a person. It’s an opportunity to have your own team, get experience as a head coach, manage games, have your own staff and manage the players.”
When the team takes the floor, even though there will be different players in the uniforms the style of play won’t be much different than in previous years. “It’s going to be a blue-collar team that prides itself on winning games defensively. We want to be the most prepared best-conditioned hardest working basketball team.”
Very similar phrases were uttered from the two previous leaders of the bench. Pat Delany and Phil Weber both were able to implement the Heat design at the NBADL level. In addition, Delany and Craig are extremely close friends. The two discussed this opportunity at length before Craig accepted the position.
A portion of the Skyforce roster should arrive in the form of players who do not make the Heat squad out of training camp. The NBADL Draft on October 31 will also add some flesh to the roster as the 50-game season beckons.
