Heroic efforts by a shorthanded squad were rewarded with an overtime road win. Sioux Falls persevered to pick up the 122-118 victory over Fort Wayne on Sunday.

Starting with a little background, the Skyforce (20-17) had logged a lot of court time this week. The Sunday evening dust up with the Mad Ants (22-16) was the fourth game in six days for the visitors.

Another element of intrigue came with the knowledge that Sioux Falls was down to eight players. Both Shawn Jones and Fuquan Edwin were unavailable for the game. Four of them went the entire second half and overtime without a break.

Even trailing by four with 55 seconds left in regulation was met with steely resolve as the Skyforce scored 5 unanswered over the next 44 seconds to grab a one point lead. Fort Wayne was only able to make one of two foul shots with 4.2 seconds left to tie the score.

Fatigue was not a factor in the extra session for Sioux Falls as they tacked on seven straight after regulation. The combined run from the last minute of the fourth quarter and the first two minutes of overtime was a 12-1 Skyforce spurt that put the game away.

Out front for Sioux Falls with the video proof below, Scotty Hopson cleared 35 points on 15-20 shooting with Andre Dawkins close behind with 34 counters. Larry Drew II (15 points, 11 assists) and Khem Birch (15 points, 19 rebounds) posted double-doubles.

For Fort Wayne, Andre Emmett shot 14-28 from the floor, topping the chart with 37 points and 11 rebounds. C.J. Fair had 24 points and Gary Talton’s double-double composed of 14 points and 11 assists was noteworthy.

Sioux Falls will get a rest until Friday with home dates featuring the Grand Rapids Drive in a pair of games this weekend. Fort Wayne will await the arrival of the Austin Spurs for a Tuesday get together at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
