Solar Storm Heading Toward Earth
Our nearest star, the sun, seems to be a little restless this week. On Wednesday, a solar eruption, known as a “coronal mass ejection,” occurred sending out charged particles through space at around 1.3 million mph.
The solar fallout from the sun storm is expected to reach Earth within the next three days.
It was the second eruption of it’s kind last week but But NASA assures us that the harmful particles can’t travel through our atmosphere to harm humans.
However, it may disrupt satellite communications, and (gasp!) cell phone service.
This photo from 2002 shows how relatively small the earth is compared to the massive flares from the sun.
Teens: “Disrupted cell phone signals?? Might just as well be an asteroid coming at us.”
