Anyone who lives in South Dakota, but has relatives in other parts of the United States, (for me it always used to be our family in the Bronx) has probably at one time or another struggled to explain our existence in what some outsiders still perceive as a primitive area.

"Of course we have indoor plumbing and electricity; no it's not all farms and cows and sheep; sure there movie theaters here, and restaurants, and museums, no we haven't circled the wagons for weeks now. . ." And so on.

Those of us who live here and love it, can now say, "In your face you uninformed nincompoops!" (Or something along those lines). Those WalletHub smarty-pantsers not only find Sioux Falls to be a great place to live, but it is the second most fun place to live in the whole country! So there, my dear east coast relatives!

How did they come to this conclusion? In their usual, meticulous, scientific, number-crunching manner, of course. Who beat us out for first place? You may find this hard to believe - it was Nevada. Maybe that Vegas place had something to do with it, I don't know.

For this particular study they only examined two major categories: A) Entertainment & recreation and B) Nightlife. But within these categories they looked at such diverse elements as; number of restaurants, theaters, golf courses, fitness centers, arts, entertainment and recreation establishments, cost of activities at these places, plus access to National and State parks and more.

Here are the Top 5 most fun states in the U.S.:

  1. Nevada
  2. South Dakota
  3. Colorado
  4. North Dakota
  5. New York
