South Dakota residents certainly didn't mail-it-in during the 23rd annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive in the state.

Mail carriers were busy delivering mail and picking up food donations from area mailboxes on May 9, 2015.

Feeding South Dakota set a goal for this year’s drive and according to Development Associate, Jennifer Stensaas, that goal was easily surpassed thanks to people's overwhelming generosity.

Check out these numbers; mail carriers in Sioux Falls collected 86,000 pounds. The Rapid City postal workers reported their facility collecting nearly 20,000 pounds of non-perishable food items.

Total state numbers are still being tabulated. But things are looking good.

Stensaas says the food collected through the drive will make a huge impact on the summer supply over the next few months.

A big shout out needs to go everyone who helped make this year's Stamp Out Hunger food drive a huge success.
