South Dakota Teacher Admits Sexting Students

A teacher in Ethan, South Dakota has admitted to sending sexually explicit photos to students while employed as a substitute as a physical education instructor and janitor.

Twenty-year-old Tyler Myers plead guilty on Thursday, June 30, 2016 to three misdemeanor counts of disseminating harmful material to minors. Myers received a 60 day suspended jail sentence for each count and was ordered to pay more than $800 in fines.

Ethan High School faculty contacted police after suspicions were raised regarding sexting three students, who were all 17 year old.

KDLT News is reporting that Judge Gordon Swanson determined it was unnecessary to require Myers to attend counseling. Swanson also questioned the Ethan School District's decision to make a "20-year-old kid" responsible for high school students.

Ethan is located south of Mitchell on highway 42.
