Again this summer a federal program is available to help provide nutritious free meals to children and adolescents living in South Dakota who could use them.

Participating organizations like; nonprofits, schools, libraries and local government offices will be serving free meals to individuals age 18 and younger during the summer months in the state.

The meals are provided through the Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered in South Dakota by the state Department of Education.

Interested families trying to find facilities serving meals, should use the Summer Meal Site Finder. The state Education Department encourages people to periodically check for other feeding sites as more locations will be added throughout the summer.

Individuals may also obtain more information by texting “food” to 877-877.
