If you notice your fellow South Dakotans have an extra "spring in their step" today, there may a good reason behind it. According to the latest well-being index, the Sunshine State is the 3rd happiest and healthiest state in the nation.

And why not?

We have the Black Hills National Forest, sunflowers, pheasants, bees, and Al's Oasis.

Hawaii was at the top of the index for the 6th straight year. It's going to be tough beating them on the healthy index. They wear flowers around their necks to work everyday.

We won't do that.

The top-5 are:

  1. Hawaii
  2. Alaska
  3. South Dakota
  4. Maine
  5. Colorado

The sickest and least happy states are W. Virginia and Kentucky.

To see where the rest of the states fall in and their health score, here 'ya go.
