Tis the season to scam one another, fa la la la la la la, la la la la la la la.

South Dakota residents need to watch out for a text messaging and email scam that entices consumers to respond to vague shipping inquires according to Attorney General Marty Jackley.

The scam sends a vague text message or email asking the recipient to respond immediately in order to get their items delivered in a timely manner.

Opening any attachment in the message may expose your cellphone to malicious malware or compromise personal identifying information.

Jackley wants to remind consumers that they need to treat their mobile devices as they would a computer and avoid opening links, installing apps or opening attachments within unsolicited emails or texts.

Should you ever have a question or concern regarding delivery confirmation, Jackley advises consumers to call the business directly.
