For many, it's the dreaded 'sticker buying time of the year.' I recently had to make the pilgrimage to 6th and Minnesota in Sioux Falls for the annual purchase of stickers for the vehicles.

There was a time, when it was a stand in line hassle. Not anymore.

When I got my stickers I went in on a Friday before the first of the month. The line was short, and it was quick getting my stickers.

I know they've added staff at the treasures office, and being able to purchase stickers in the mail (for a nominal fee) has made it even easier. But there's another way to get stickers. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like you can get yours at Hy-Vee stores in Sioux Falls too.

All you do is take the card they send you in the mail, plug it in, and pay with either debit or credit card.

The day after I wrote this story, Tony from work said, he uses it all the time. I also received an email from Christi and she has had good luck with the machine:

I have gotten my tags at the machine several times and LOVE it!  I only had a couple of concerns with the system but we worked around them and it was still better than standing in the line!  I will fill you in.....maybe they have changed it now (mine are coming due again soon).
The machines were pretty new when I used them so I didn't have my renewal card with me at the time so I used my license.  We had some difficulty because for some reason not all of our vehicles (we only have two vehicles but also had a trailer at the time) were not listed under my license so I could only get tags for the vehicle that came up.  My 2nd problem came up because at the time the machine only took MasterCard and maybe a couple other cards but my debit card is a Visa (and no it did not take Visa).  It worked out OK because I happened to have my checkbook with me (for once) and you could scan a check and do it by e-check so that was nice.  Anyway all in all it took a couple of trips to get it done but still beat standing in line.  Now I have moved to Lincoln County so it will save me the trip to Canton when I can just go up the street to HyVee and I am done!

How about you? Have you tried getting your vehicle stickers this way? I'd love to hear from you if you have. You can e-mail me at jdcollins@kikn.com.
