Recently a food company had to recall frozen hashbrowns because the potatoes contained pieces of golf balls in them.

The recall was issued for fear the golf ball pieces could be a chocking hazard. So far no injuries have been reported.

The recall was for North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Illinois, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

McCain Foods USA sent out the recall notice in nine states because some golf balls were "inadvertently harvested" along with the potatoes and chopped up.

The potato field in question is located right next door to a golf course driving range. And apparently not everyone was successful in hitting the golf ball straight.

We had something similar happen here a few years back. A friend of mine tells the story of when they baled up a bunch of golf balls next door to the Dell Rapids Golf Course.

Just on the other side of the golf course fence was a farmer's alfalfa field. My friend helped the owner of the field put up those small, square bales that year.

He says the farmer told him that for a couple of years after that, he would occasionally break open a bale and find a golf ball or two buried deep inside.
