SIOUX FALLS - The Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls is holding an event to warn people of the dangers of texting while driving.

Philip Sorensen, a former student at the school, was killed last year in an accident caused by another driver who was texting at the time of the crash. Sorensen's parents, who have set up a scholarship endowment in their son's honor, are scheduled to attend the event.

The school's Student Government Association is holding the event at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the campus in Sioux Falls. People who attend will be able to use a simulator that demonstrates the consequences of driving while distracted or impaired.
