Sioux Falls Police believe a crash along Interstate 29 near the Madison Street Exit was a suicide.

The incident occurred about 12:00 PM on Wednesday when a 2001 Chevy pickup took the off-ramp at Exit 80 going north. The vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a light pole and hit the fence that serves as a barrier to the quarry.

Police say several witnesses came to the driver’s aid after the crash. However it was discovered that the driver had apparently stabbed himself in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was 57 years old and from Billings, Montana. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
